COVID-19 Update on Debt Collection

On Friday 2 April, updated regulations to the Disaster Management Act were gazetted which has caused confusion as to whether Debt Collection services can continue to operate during this time.

We wanted to provide clarity

Debt collection has been specifically excluded from the list of essential financial services. The effect of this exclusion is that debt collection is prohibited from a place of business, but importantly can be provided remotely.

TPN confirms our debt collection process, specifically the Letters of Demand, are available remotely via the TPN website. All TPN staff as well as your staff are working remotely, which ensures compliance with the regulations.

How your Letters of Demand will be processed

The SMS and Email delivery of Letters of Demand are processed immediately through our remote system.

The physical posting of letters will be delivered once the SA Post Office resumes mail sorting and mail delivery services.

The ability to collect outstanding debt will be vital once the lockdown has been lifted. TPN’s early stage collections through Letters of Demand can be relied on to start that process in the strongest possible way.
